Consisting of over 6,000 m² of cold / dry store facilities, the project presented several unique challenges to the Becon Constructions’ team.

Having entered into a contract for only part of the overall scheme, the Client then acquired an additional interstate manufacturer.

Overnight the project doubled in size with the Client’s additional storage and warehouse requirements. Further redesign saw the introduction of approximately 1,000 m² of new production area built over the existing facility.

Increased power requirements saw a replacement sub-station and switchroom incorporated into the project.

The Becon Constructions’ team was able to work closely with the Client to minimise this impact of the changes to the overall program. Interruptions to production were kept to a minimum by carefully staging the works and keeping shutdowns to a minimum.

The end result was that key dates were achieved with the Client being able to utilise the Christmas shutdown to install key equipment.

Becon Constructions is a privately owned Company established in 1984.  The Company operates from its modern offices in Hallam, Victoria and has an annual turnover in excess of $120M.  From this sound financial base Becon Constructions has built a solid reputation for performance and professionalism.  Major companies such as Aldi Australia, Coles Group Limited, Colonial First State Property Management (formerly Gandel Group), FKP Property Group (formerly Wilbow Corporation), McDonald's Australia, Southern Restaurants Pty Ltd, Thompson Properties, Timbercorp and Woolworths Australia (Safeway) return to Becon Constructions due to their proven track record.

Company Restructure

In July 2007, Becon Constructions was restructured as Becon Constructions (Aust) Pty Ltd to enable some of the senior staff to have a greater input into the company and provide a path for planning for the future.

This exciting initiative has enabled the two founding directors, Bruce Eddington and Trevor Evans, to share the continued success with some of their valued staff members, and ensure the future of the Becon Constructions Group.  Both Bruce and Trevor continue in their roles in the day to day running of the business.

Personnel

The founding directors of Becon Constructions are Bruce Eddington and Trevor Evans. 

Both Bruce and Trevor have adopted a 100% participatory role in the delivery of all building projects and consequently, as working directors, have a complete understanding of all aspects of the projects undertaken.  The steady and controlled growth at Becon Constructions has been directed by their individual roles in leadership, management and vision for the Company.

Bruce’s role as Managing Director includes office and asset management, administration and financial control.  Bruce is also a qualified civil engineer with extensive experience in civil and building design and construction.

Trevor’s role as Construction Director deals with the complete management and control of construction sites.  Trevor has also had extensive experience in industrial relations, construction planning, OH&S and human relations.

Becon Constructions (Aust) consists of the two working directors, approximately twenty-five (25) administration and technical staff, including a Construction Manager and seven (7) Project Managers; direct site staff in excess of sixty (60) including eighteen (18) Site Supervisors; and numerous trade contractors.  We employ our own carpenters and labourers directly to give greater flexibility and ensure quality of work.  All are chosen for their experience, ability to perform and willingness to progress through ongoing training. 

The company also has an active apprenticeship program which provides a well defined career path and advancement opportunities for its future leaders.  We are proud that many of our Leading Hands and Site Supervisors commenced their employment with Becon Constructions as apprentices.
